چکیده

We investigate an overlapping solution technique to compute the scattering of timeharmonic electromagnetic waves in two dimensions. The technique can be used to compute waves scattered by penetrable anisotropic inhomogeneous scatterers or impenetrable obstacles. The major focus is on implementing the method using finite elements. We prove existence of a unique solution to the disctretized problem and derive an optimal convergence rate for the scheme, which is verified numerical by examples.

Integral Equation Methods in Electromagnetic Scattering from Anisotropic Media

We investigate scattering of time-harmonic electromagnetic waves by an anisotropic inhomogeneous medium. The problem is equivalently transformed into a system of strongly singular integral equations. Uniqueness and existence of a solution is shown and we examine the regularity of the solution by means of integral equations. We also prove the analyticity of the scattered eld with respect to the ...

A Uniqueness Theorem for an Inverse Electromagnetic Scattering Problem in Inhomogeneous Anisotropic Media

We show that the support of a (possibly) coated anisotropic medium is uniquely determined by the electric far-field patterns corresponding to incident time-harmonic electromagnetic plane waves with arbitrary polarization and direction. Our proof avoids the use of a fundamental solution to Maxwell’s equations in an anisotropic medium and instead relies on the well-posedness and regularity proper...

Inverse Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Theory

This paper is a survey of the inverse scattering problem for time-harmonic acoustic and electromagnetic waves at fixed frequency. We begin by a discussion of “weak scattering” and Newton-type methods for solving the inverse scattering problem for acoustic waves, including a brief discussion of Tikhonov’s method for the numerical solution of ill-posed problems. We then proceed to prove a uniquen...

The Computation of Lower Bounds for the Norm of the Index of Refraction in an Anisotropic Media from Far Field Data

We consider the scattering of time harmonic electromagnetic plane waves by a bounded, inhomogeneous, anisotropic dielectric medium and show that under certain assumptions a lower bound on the norm of the (matrix) index of refraction can be obtained from a knowledge of the smallest transmission eigenvalue corresponding to the medium. Numerical examples are given showing the efficaciousness of ou...

Enclosure methods for Helmholtz-type equations

The inverse problem under consideration is to reconstruct the shape information of obstacles or inclusions embedded in the (inhomogeneous) background medium from boundary measurements of propagating waves. This article is a survey of enclosure-type methods implementing exponential complex geometrical optics waves as boundary illumination. The equations for acoustic waves, electromagnetic waves ...
